•Day trip to Rila Monastery and Bansko

Full day spent exploring some of the best sights of southern Bulgaria. First, you will discover the Rila Monastery (UNESCO World Heritage) and the museum of the monastery, housing the stunning Cross of Rafail (a religious artefact featuring stunning miniature work – 104 religious scenes and 650 figures – Rafail needed 12 years to complete it). Then you will enjoy a guided walk of the old town of Bansko. Except being one of Bulgaria’s best known ski resorts, Bansko also sports a very well-preserved old town, featuring excellent examples of the architecture of the 19th century.

•Day trip to Plovdiv and the Bachkovo Monastery

Take a short drive to Plovdiv, where you will discover the stunning old town area, famous for its houses, representative for the 19th century architecture, known as “Bulgarian Renaissance”. Visit the Ethnographical Museum and the Roman Theatre (still in use today), then head south. You will visit the Asenovgrad Fortress, perched on a high rock overlooking the main road, and then the Bachkovo Monastery, one of the most famous religious sites in Bulgaria, founded in 1083, famous for its “Panorama” mural painting.
