Your journey begins at Tirana International Airport, where a friendly guide will warmly greet you and escort you to your centrally located hotel. After settling in, dive into the vibrant energy of Tirana, Albania’s modern yet historic capital.
Start your exploration at Skanderbeg Square, the bustling heart of the city, named after Albania’s national hero. Here, marvel at the grand statue of Skanderbeg and visit iconic landmarks like the National History Museum, where Albania’s story comes to life. Continue to the Clock Tower, a symbol of Tirana’s Ottoman past, offering panoramic views from its summit.
Next, visit the charming Et’hem Beu Mosque, a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture adorned with intricate frescoes depicting nature scenes. Then, delve into history at the National Historic Museum and National Library, uncovering Albania’s fascinating journey through time.

We start the day gently in Tirana, with a relaxed morning walk that offers a glimpse into everyday life—lively cafés, local rhythms, and the city’s easygoing energy. We then set off toward Shkodra, enjoying the changing landscapes along the way.
Upon arrival, we explore Albania’s rich visual heritage at the National Museum of Photography, home to an exceptional collection that documents the country’s past through pioneering images. Our journey continues to an elegant 18th-century stone bridge, admired for its distinctive architecture and picturesque setting, offering lovely panoramic views of the surrounding area. We then visit a renowned mask-making workshop where tradition meets artistry, and where handcrafted creations—celebrated far beyond Albania—have appeared at international events and even in iconic films.
The evening is yours to enjoy at leisure. Choose a traditional restaurant for dinner or take a relaxed stroll through town, soaking in the calm atmosphere and the pleasant coolness of a Shkodra night.

We depart Shkodra and travel south to Kruja, where we visit the museum dedicated to Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg. Celebrated for uniting the Albanian territories and resisting Ottoman expansion for a quarter of a century, Skanderbeg remains a powerful symbol of national identity and was honored by Pope Calixtus III as Athleta Christi—the Champion of Christ—for his role in safeguarding Christian Europe.
Following the museum visit, we wander through Kruja’s historic Old Bazaar, a charming area lined with traditional shops and artisans, where local handicrafts are still produced, including the iconic qeleshe, the white woolen cap traditionally worn by Albanian men. After our time in Kruja, we continue our journey toward Berat, a UNESCO-listed treasure renowned for its distinctive architecture and timeless character.

Discover the layered history of Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage site, beginning with a visit to its impressive hilltop castle, ancient fortifications, and the landmark Church of St. Mary. Inside the castle complex, the Onufri Museum offers a deep dive into Albania’s artistic and spiritual heritage, with remarkable religious icons, manuscripts, and finely crafted works spanning several centuries.
Leaving the historic town behind, the journey continues into the countryside to Roshnik village, where a visit to a family-run winery provides a taste of rural life. Set amid vineyards and rolling hills, this peaceful setting is ideal for a wine tasting accompanied by a fresh, farm-to-table lunch inspired by local traditions.
In the afternoon, we explore the evocative archaeological site of Apollonia, once one of the most important ancient cities in the region. Founded as a major trading center blending Illyrian, Greek, and Roman influences, Apollonia flourished under Roman rule and was praised by Cicero as magna urbs et gravis. Declared a free city, it became an important center of learning, educating figures such as Augustus, the future Roman emperor, and the general Agrippa.
From Apollonia, a scenic drive takes us onward to Vlore.

The day begins immersed in nature, with a gentle walk surrounded by birdsong, rustling leaves, and the freshness of the morning air. After breakfast, we set out on a scenic Riviera drive toward the Llogara Pass, where dramatic mountain scenery opens suddenly to sweeping views of the Ionian Sea—a striking meeting of land and water.
Our journey continues to a striking fortress set on a small peninsula, where we explore its distinctive triangular layout and learn about the powerful and complex figure of Ali Pasha Tepelena, one of the most influential personalities of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. From here, the pace slows with free time by the sea, offering the chance to relax on the beach, swim, or simply enjoy the coastal atmosphere at your own rhythm.
Later, we head inland to Upper Qeparo, a beautifully preserved village known for its panoramic views and timeless character. Wandering its stone paths feels like stepping into another era, where traditional rural life still quietly endures. Lunch is enjoyed at a local village restaurant, highlighting regional flavors.
The day winds down in Saranda, with a relaxed evening at leisure. Stroll along the seaside promenade, take in the salty breeze, and perhaps enjoy a dinner of freshly caught seafood by the water.

We begin the day with a journey to Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Albania’s most important archaeological areas. Inhabited since prehistoric times, Butrint reveals a remarkable succession of civilizations, with remains dating from the Illyrian, Greek, Roman, and medieval periods. Originally a settlement of the Chaonian tribe, it later became part of Epirus, then a Roman colony and an early bishopric, leaving behind an exceptional concentration of monuments that reflect its long and complex history.
After exploring the archaeological park, we continue to Lake Butrint, where a short boat visit offers a closer look at the tranquil landscape surrounding the site and insight into the area’s traditional way of life, closely connected to the lake.
In the afternoon, we travel onward toward Gjirokastër, another UNESCO-listed town. Along the way, we stop at the Blue Eye, a captivating natural spring known for its crystal-clear waters and vivid shades of blue, set within lush greenery—a refreshing and scenic pause before reaching our destination.

The day is dedicated to exploring Gjirokastër, a UNESCO World Heritage city celebrated for its striking stone architecture and rich cultural legacy. Known as the “City of Stone” and the birthplace of acclaimed writer Ismail Kadare, the town’s atmosphere and layered history have inspired many of his works, capturing the spirit of this unique place for readers around the world.
We begin with a guided visit to the imposing Castle of Gjirokastër, the second-largest fortress in the Balkans. From its commanding hilltop position, the castle offers sweeping views over the valley, while its structures reflect centuries of history, from medieval origins to its later role as a museum. We then step into the beautifully restored Skenduli House, an outstanding example of Ottoman-era domestic architecture, providing a glimpse into the lifestyle, customs, and social traditions of the town’s former elite.
There is free time to stroll through the atmospheric Old Bazaar, with its stone-paved streets and traditional shops—an area that strongly influenced Kadare’s evocative descriptions of his hometown. In the afternoon, we continue to the nearby village of Labova e Kryqit to visit the Church of St. Mary, a remarkable early Byzantine monument dating back to the 6th century, adorned with frescoes from the 9th to 11th centuries. Once a major pilgrimage site, the church is historically known for housing a fragment of the True Cross until religious practices were curtailed in 1967.
The day concludes back in Gjirokastër, with time at leisure to relax or further explore the Old Bazaar at your own pace.
Overnight in Gjirokastra at N'SOKAK Boutique Hotel****
We depart the Old Bazaar of Gjirokastër and continue to the nearby village of Dhoksat for an authentic glimpse into rural Albanian life. Here, we are welcomed by a local family and gain insight into everyday traditions and customs. Before lunch, a short guided walk through the village introduces its history and character, led by a knowledgeable local host. This is followed by a hands-on cooking experience, culminating in a homemade meal prepared together and shared in a warm, family setting.
In the afternoon, we begin the scenic drive back toward Tirana, enjoying the changing landscapes along the way.
