In ancient times, Transylvania was constantly attacked by neighboring countries. The goal was, of course, to conquer this picturesque and fertile territory. First, the Habsburg Empire dominated the region since the 17th century, then the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the Great Union in 1918. At that moment, Transylvania was recognized as part of Romania and remains so to this day. 

Not many people know about the intriguing history and legends surrounding the Szeklers. 

Before the Great Union, representatives of the Austro-Hunagrian Empire were elected and sent to strategic parts of Transylvania to safeguard its border with the adjacent territories.

 These people became what we know today as the Szeklers. They remained in those areas until this day. The Szekely Land developed as a unique region in Romania, holding a fascinating mix of folklore and custom traditions you won’t see anywhere else in the country. The Szeklers’ cultural heritage remains to this day, and in some areas, you can even hear the Hungarian language spoken in the streets. Sometimes, even more often than Romanian.
